Muji, the Japanese design brand that has managed to turn color-free, radical simplicity into a lusted-after esthetic, has added an elegant air purifier to its growing collection of unsexy electronic gadgets. Designed by Kazushige Miyake, Muji’s Air Purifier trades in the typical bulky shape and knob-laden profile of household air purifiers for a supremely pared down 20-inch perforated cylinder that mimics the form of its internal 3-layer carbon filter. The 360-degree perforated shield efficiently draws in surrounding air, the filter processes it, and purified air is released through the top. Two settings—part of the control panel that subtly resides on the cylinder’s rim—facilitate more targeted functionality for activities (like vacuuming and dusting) that raise the level of air-borne irritants. Dare we call the Muji Air Purifier a clean winner?
