Fashion as we know it derives from the richness, the forward thinking and the boldness of the fashion designers of the past. And today we are revisiting the past by naming the most influential women fashion designers of all times. This is a two parts article, so today we will let you know of 5 out of the 10 most influential women fashion designers. These are the women that have blazed the trail in fashion design.

Coco Chanel

Of course we couldn’t start with any other than Coco Chanel. Her influence today is as strong as ever, as the house she founded remains one of the most coveted and respected labels in the world.

Jeanne Lanvin

Jeanne Lanvin’s legacy remains as well as relevant today as when she founded it. Trained as a milliner and dressmaker, Lanvin began making clothes for her daughter that were so beautiful, a number of wealthy people began requesting copies for their own children, and the designer happily obliged. Soon, Jeanne started making clothes to the children’s mothers and that’s how it wall started.

Valentina

Valentina is best known for the red carpet glamour with her dramatic evening gowns. She was also one of the first to be known by merely her first name.

Rei Kawakubo

To this day, Kawakubo remains one of the most beloved and unconventional designers of our time. “In the 1980s, together with Yohji Yamamoto, she revolutionized Paris fashion, by introducing a style of dress that merged Western and Japanese influence and was notably distinct from 1980s high fashion”.

Vivienne Westwood

We can thank Westwood for bringing modern punk and new wave fashions into the mainstream. Without her, safety pin shirts, sky-high platform shoes, plaid pants and, of course, expertly draped dresses would not nearly be so chic.
