With the aim of creating a public installation that would “engage and delight the community,” British firms ECE Architecture and Creative Forager have accomplished their goal by constructing a shimmering beach hut in the seaside town of Worthing, England.
A project that took a mere six weeks to design and build, the simple wooden edifice bears the dimensions of the modest wood beach huts that line the Worthing shoreline, but has been given a gleaming facade made of laser-cut mirrored panels. Standing alone on the pebbly beach, the installation’s entire surface area literally mirrors its watery surroundings, its simple form and rippling reflections appearing to at once emerge from and melt into the seascape.
ECE’s Stuart Eatock is pleased with the reception his shining little hut has received. “We were overwhelmed by the positive response from the public; I think this calls for a permanent installation!” Or at least a repeat performance, we suggest.
