Platform for Architecture + Research (PAR) has reinterpreted the idea of “courtyard housing” with a 930-foot-tall “stack of individual houses” envisioned for a site on Los Angeles‘ Wilshire Boulevard. Named “Wilshire Tower,” the conceptual skyscraper is one of many radical proposals being unveiled at the A+D Museum‘s ongoing “Shelter: Rethinking How We Live in Los Angeles” exhibition that exploring new forms of housing for Los Angeles.
“The tower typology has become anonymous, defined mainly by its height,” says PAR. “Typical residential skyscrapers, while successfully providing density, rarely produce unique living environments with access to green space, qualities that are emblematic of Los Angeles living.”
“PAR’s proposal, completed in close collaboration with Buro Happold, acts against this endemic monotony, creating a 930-foot-tall stack of individual houses, each with a direct connection to nature through oversized terraces, some containing common spaces and leisure zones.”
The exhibition is co-curated by Sam Lubell and Danielle Rago and is on view through November 20, 2015. PAR’s participation is generously supported by Buro Happold.
