To my friends in Houston, the building where I live in New York is old because it dates back more than 100 years, but I doubt that would impress the couple who live in this 16th century Italian palazzo. Europeans are used to living with old things, which might help to explain the boldness and seeming effortlessness with which they blend old and new.
