Furniture and Textiles Inspired by the Body

Inspired by the relationship between a body and its clothing, Mestiz is a line of furniture and textiles that represents dressing up. Working with local craftsman, architect and designer Daniel Valero created the Mestiz N—1 Collection, which aims to celebrate the contemporary style and artisan techniques of textile crafts and regional tradition.

All the textiles in the line were woven with treadle looms in workshops in Saltillo, Mexico. Each of the pieces have a specific color, texture, and pattern brought to life by the hands of the craftsman. Like clothing, the textiles are meant to add personality, protect, and comfort the body, and in this case, the functional piece of furniture.

Mestiz N—1 is an examination into the symbiotic collaboration between designer and craftsman, while also bringing back attention to traditional Mexican craftsmen.
