Italian manufacturer .Exnovo, which has been experimenting with 3D printing technology since 1988, introduced new lighting designs at Maison et Objet this year—and included was Maggiolina, a new lamp series by Alessandro Zambelli. Said to be inspired by Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis, in which a man awakens to find himself transformed into an insect, Maggiolina’s compact mushroom-like form, when viewed from above, is meant to resemble the shape of a beetle. Comprised of perforated (3-D printed) polyamide shade and hand crafted ceramic base, Maggiolina, a lamp which literally merges traditional craft and cutting edge technology, is being made available in 4 contemporary colors—white, yellow, red, and blue.
