BAFTA 2015 winners and highlights: a full report

The 68th British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards was a glitzy affair and London’s Royal Opera House never looked so glamourous.

The Grand Budapest Hotel and Stephen Hawking biopic “The Theory of Everything” took home a myriad of awards. Let’s see what happenned…

The first award, for Outstanding British film, was presented by David Beckham to The Theory Of Everything. The Theory Of Everything won the adapted screenplay BAFTA, while the prizes for original screenplay and for costume design went to The Grand Budapest Hotel.

The Stephen Hawking biopic, starring Redmayne as the pioneering scientist, swept the BAFTA board and is expected to do well at the Oscars. This was one of the biggest BAFTA 2015 winners !

The next award, for Original Music, went to Alexandre Desplat for his work on The Grand Budapest Hotel.

The Lego Movie was named Best Animated Film, before Professor Hawking was joined on stage to a standing ovation by the actress Felicity Jones that described him as the only man more intelligent than Fry, joked he was also “better looking” before they handed over the BAFTA for Special Visual Effects to Interstellar.

The Grand Budapest Hotel’s triumphant trawl of technical awards was halted when Whiplash won the BAFTAs for editing and sound.

The award for Cinematography went to Birdman and was accepted by its star, Michael Keaton, on behalf of Emmanuel Lubezki.

Jack O’Connell has won the BAFTA Rising Star. The Unbroken actor beat the likes of Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Margot Robbie, Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley to scoop the prestigious award.
