Dear Alice,
Recently I moved into a new apartment with a roommate who has been living there for 4 years. She’s very nice, and we’re getting along very well thus far.
My problems lie with the decor/furniture/general clutter around the apartment. Since she’s been living there for so long, it’s natural that she’s quite settled in the space. That being said, my aesthetic is very different—I don’t like clutter! Many of the pieces of furniture don’t serve a purpose or fit into the space appropriately.
How do I broach this topic without offending her/her style/her taste? I’m the new one here, and I’m very aware of it, but this is now my home too. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
