Benjamin Moore has selected white as its 2016 Color of the Year—more specifically, Simply White, one of the 250 shades of white the paint company carries. While that announcement elicited a few yawns from color-loving design buffs, we die hard modernists think Simply White is, well, a pristine choice. Whether used as neutral backdrop or made to stand front and center, white, like minimalism, has no bells and whistles behind which to hide, necessitating unreasonable attention to detail. And, as the rooms that follow illustrate, when making a color choice for living room, or kid’s room, home office or hotel suite, it’s pretty hard to go wrong with Simply White.
