Danish brand Fritz Hansen is marking the 60th anniversary of the Series 7 Chair, originally launched in 1965, with a limited edition pair of colors and finishes the company characterizes as masculine and feminine. One of the most enduring and popular chair designs of the last century, the Series 7’s refined organic profile was the culmination of the great Arne Jacobsen’s ongoing experimentation with bent plywood—yielding a graceful shape both timeless and relentlessly copied. The anniversary editions, which wowed us at this year’s ICFF, are described by Fritz Hansen as, “A masculine edition with a dark blue lacquer shell and powder-coated burnished legs. And a feminine edition dressed in pale pink lacquer with 24-ct gold-plated legs.” Available to purchase only during the year 2015, each chair will carry a gold plate, attached to the underside of its seat, signifying its special status.
