- What I Love About My Small Home:
- Built in 1920, my coach house, nicknamed the “sow’s ear” by several friends, came with a long list of issues that would scare off most renters. It was FILTHY with a Pepto-pink bathroom painted (including the exterior of the claw-foot tub & radiator) by an elderly aunt who hid the paint cans under the tub to rust for 15 years, had an odd floor-plan, and lots of, um, ‘cat surprises’. But the details were undeniable; quiet, huge windows, big trees, a quirky step-up bathroom with the aforementioned claw-foot tub, French doors to the living area, kitchen shelves that verge on folk art, and very cool neighbors. After an industrial-strength scrubbing and some paint, it’s a silk purse.
