Milan Design Week 2015 started today and it will long until 19th April. With a lot of design stars in the town attending to one of the major design events in the world, there are things at Milan Design Week 2015 which you just can’t miss.

With that in mind, we’ll present you the top 10 must dos at Milan Design Week 2015.

A FEMININE TOUCH AT DESIGN WEEK BY PAOLA NAVONE
LOCATION: TBC

One of the most appreciated women belonging to the Italian design scene, Paola Navone, will be present at Salone del Mobile 2015 with two different collaborations. Best known for Ivy, the garden armchair designed for Emu in 2008 and Cuore, the carafe dating back to 2011, she will be present with new creations designed for Linteloo alongside Sjoerd Vroonland, Roderick Vos and Niels Bendtsen. You’ll also have the chance to appreciate her style, by going to Gervasoni’s stand, admiring a series of armchairs, sofas, pouffes, tables and lamps personally selected by Paola Navone.

ALESSANDRO MENDINI PRESENTS DERIVA AT FUORISALONE

Best known for his famous armchair Proust designed for Magis, Alessandro Mendini is one of the most illustrious names in the Italian design’s firmament. He will be present at the FUORI SALONE 2015 with Fragile, the famous Milanese gallery, best known for boasting some of the best productions belonging to the 1900s. Mendini will present a limited edition of contemporary suspended lamps: DERIVA. These LED lamps are made of iron and copper, and the paper-folding shape is what makes them so unique. Their name, DERIVA, (centerboard) recalls the similarity with a boat suspended in the air.

After designing the famous Tolomedo lamp for Artemide, Italian designer Michele De Lucchi will be active part in the realization of an entire innovative installation at Salone del Mobile. Entirely dedicated to the work environment, “La Passeggiata”, signed by Michele de Lucchi, is a great installation hosted inside the pavilions of Workplace3.0, conceived to create a unique area where innovative ideas studied to better live the work environment go on display, through new conceptual spaces and shapes.

Deep Words Light is the ambitious project, which sees Antonio Citterio, Patricia Viel and Partners Studio join forces with Gruppo Cosentino, which will be presented at the Università degli Studi di Milano from the 13 April to 23 May 2015. As one of the most sought after Italian designers all over he world, Antonio Citterio has previously worked for B&B, Flos and Vitra and is best known for having designed the iconic lamp Kelvin Led, for Flos.

Brera Design District is once again one of the most vibrant areas hosting the events of Fuori Salone 2015 and this year it welcomes Italian designer Luca Nichetto. He is present with three different events in Brera: don’t miss out on the chance to admire his works for the Swedish brand Kinnarps, for which he has designed a new way of thinking and living the work environment and go to see what he made for eco brand Verreum. An anticipation? He will present BonBon, a series of small tables made in mirrored glass. And that’s not all: the showroom by Foscarini Spazio Brera also will display an original version of lamps collection Plass such as the new table lamp Kurage, he four handed designed with Nendo.

Italian designer and architect Roberto Paoli will be sharing his latest creation that he’s crafted for studio Chairs & More. Named Babah, Paoli’s chair plays on the soft aesthetics of its form, opting for materials that seemingly have no edges and flow without breaks in the design. What has been promised is one of the most comfortable seats of its kind, and addresses many questions of functionality that often arise in this sector of design. Chairs & More is a highly respected studio that specialises in pieces that fit international requirements and marketing needs.

Still one of the more exciting areas to grace Milan Design Week in recent years, this industrial set hub of activity is generally inhabited by those from North European countries (but not only). We Make Carpets are a Dutch studio, showing its ‘Kneeling’ exhibition that celebrates 5-years of the firms work, including its latest projects and ideas. Expect to discover pieces made from plastic through to pasta.

Having opened last year, Milan’s latest Design Week Zone, 5 Vie, an area that traces the historic centre of Milan by exploring streets often forgotten by visitors. This year promises to be just as intriguing, setting up camp in the most unlikely of places, including RestartMilano that are taking over Via Santa Maria 10 with their new collection. With Alcantra fabrics, the team have created a tactile environment that demands a sense of interaction between the viewer, space and piece. You’ll just have to experience it in person.

CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED DESIGNJUNCTION IN SAN BABILA

Known for working with leading global brands and delivering cutting-edge design within curated spaces, designjunction bring their highly successful show to the Casa dell’Opera Nazionale Balilla, a former school and ex-theatre. On show are the likes Tom Dixon who turns his section into The Cinema, a series of extraordinary installations and light shows. Also what’s on display will be available for immediate purchase. Also displaying will be La Chance, Native Union, Punkt, and Philippe Starck, the latter who is celebrating 25-years of his iconic design piece ‘Juicy Salif’. There will also be pop-up shops, installations and a café for the duration of the event. After Milan, the show will move on to New York and then London. cc-tapis is famed for the quality of its handknotted rugs and as well as their innovative approach to traditional methods, and all are handknotted by expert Tibetan artisans in Nepal. These are the real deal and most certainly a site to behold. This year, in Brera, cc-tapis are to be presented by COVER Magazine, with a special collaboration done with Federico Pepe, a multi-talented creative who can turn his hand to almost anything. This project channels an exciting sense of art deco decadence yet within cc-tapis’ values and history.
