Markthal was also recently named the winner of the NRW Jaarprijs, a Dutch national award for the best retail building, as well as the winner of the NEPROM Award 2015 for regeneration of a district.

The building, which contains 228 apartments covering 96 fresh produce stalls, was opened in October 2014 by Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, and has “recently received its 8 millionth visitor, far surpassing the highest estimate of 4.5 million visitors in its first year.”
