Should Our Bar Cart Be “Open” for Parties? — Good Questions

By Tess Wilson

Q: My question to the readers is this: when you throw parties, do you give guests free rein to your bar collection (save, of course, for the very expensive/special stuff)? I want to be hospitable and give everyone access to whatever they like, but our liquor selection is vast and sometimes guests can feel overwhelmed or don’t understand the value of what they’re consuming. (Once we had a very drunk guest shoot someone else’s glass of expensive whisky and said it tasted like a shoe. We haven’t invited them back.) We will leave out bottles of wine— whatever pairs well with what we’re eating—but the bar cart with hard liquor is right next to the dining table in our small apartment. -Sent by Darcy
