Takashi Murakami Aspen Ski Llift Tickets

As if going skiing in Aspen weren’t a lofty enough distinction, the city’s ski buffs will now have something else to brag about. When the ski season launches in November, visitors to the slopes will be taking artist Takashi Murakami along for the ride. The Tokyo-born Murakami has been commissioned to design a suite of ski lift tickets for the 2015/2016 season, and has met the challenge in characteristically colorful fashion, creating a series of compositions that bear his distinctive cartoon motifs—each of which can be had for the price of a standard ski lift ticket.

Murakami is only the latest in a line of artists to contribute to Art in Unexpected Places, a decade-long collaborative project of the Aspen Skiing Company and the Aspen Museum of Art that aims to engage Aspen’s hoards of winter guests with contemporary art—whethere they’re aware of it or not. Art installations and outdoor performances are part of the program, but from the looks of it, Murakami’s ski lift tickets promise to be the hottest ticket in town.
