Elon Musk announced Tesla Energy yesterday, and the first product is Powerwall. This 3 foot by 4 foot battery system is connected to the internet to create smart microgrids that can be used for backup or even go off the grid completely. The 10 kWh version is $3,500, or there’s a 7 kWh model for $3,000. For a larger applications, Musk announced Powerpack, an infinitely scalable system for for businesses, industrial applications, and even public utility companies.
