This year’s 91st Academy Awards was the project of creative director and set designer, David Korins, in collaboration with Swarovski. David Korins has already leaded projects like the plays of Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen and live music experiences of Lady Gaga and Kanye West.
In this year’s stage, David Korins had the stage studded with 41,000 crystals Swarovski, where he featured a 1600 pound piece, adorned with 1000 crystals, called Crystal Cloud.
Another important feature of this year’s design was the Crystal Swag, a three story high ribbon, that has a dynamic flow, and over 400 strands of crystals.
Besides these luxurious touches on this art piece that is the stage set, David Korins make and addition of 40,000 roses, an iconic element, that would also represent the elegance of the night, along with a vigorous texture.
The inspiration behind this marvelous design is David Korins’s wish of creating abstract and organic shapes, like the ribbon and the cloud, to give a sense of inclusivity throughout the night, between all the A-list artists.
