In a report released by the US Department of Transportation this week, they estimated that by 2040, freight volume in the United States will increase by 45 percent to 29 billion tons. Drones aren’t likely to save the day, either: “Delivery by unmanned aircraft in dense urban environments presents significantly greater security, safety, and privacy risks, and will likely take longer to develop,” the report says.
